using the o and u sa Bisaya

i am writing for a visayan newspaper and the usage of letter o and u confuses me. e.g. the word polis or pulis, kapolisan or kapulisan, which is the right spelling for it? anybody pls enlighten me on this:D

Actually, there is no distinction between u vs. o. "Binisaya" language has only three vowel sounds (a; u/o; e/i). We don't emphasize the sound of the u or o or e or i compared to Tagalog. And that's the main reason why Tagalog speakers can easily recognize Visayan speaker who is speaking in Tagalog. And also, a lot of people are confused to the terms: "Binisaya" vs. "Bisaya".
"Binisaya" - is the language that is spoken in Cebu; Bohol; Dumaguete; some part of Leyte and Samar and some part of Mindanao. whereas, the "Bisaya" - are the people who lives in the Visayas.
