The tuko or toko in the Philippines is also called tokay gecko, gecko or gekko. The reptile belongs to the lizard family and is nocturnal. A nocturnal animal sleeps during the day time and is awake at night time. The Tuko is the 2th largest Gecko species, with a maximum length of about 18 inches for males, and 16 inches for females, with weights up to 600 grams. They are special in appearance, with a blue or gray colored body, sometimes with spots ranging from yellow to red. The male's color is brighter than the female. They have big eyes with a vertical pupil. Eyes are mostly brown but can also be yellow or orange. Tukos are very territorial, and will attack any other animal that enters their territory. They are solitary reptiles and mating takes only place during the mating season. Females lay one or two eggs with hard shells which are guarded until they are hatched. The Philippine tuko feeds on insects and vertebrates that are small. The lifespan is 8–11 years, but in captivity some Tukos have been known to live more than 20 years.
